The Ordinary Trader Strategy
Ask a struggling trader “what are they missing”, and you usually get one of two answers.
Some say they need a better strategy. A clearer way to read the chart. A method that tells them what to look for and when.
Others say they need more discipline. A way to stop overtrading, hold their winners, cut their losers cleanly. Rules they actually stick to.
Both answers are pointing at the same problem from different sides.
You can have the cleanest framework for reading the market and still lose money, because you took six trades when the plan said two. You can have ironclad rules about risk and still lose money, because you don’t know what setup you’re waiting for.
The two have to work together. One tells you what’s worth trading. The other tells you how to trade it without getting in your own way.
That’s what this strategy is built around.
The Playbook
The Playbook is how you read the market.
It breaks price action down into a sequence of events. Where price is coming from, where it’s likely to react, what needs to happen before a setup is worth taking. Each step builds on the last, so by the time you’re considering an entry, you already know what you’re waiting for and why.
It’s the framework that tells you what’s worth trading.
The Daily Planner
The Daily Planner is how you execute.
Before the session begins, you’ve already decided your maximum risk, your daily target, your trade limit, and the conditions that end your day early. None of those decisions get made while a trade is open or while a loss is still fresh.
It turns reading the market into a process you can actually follow.
On their own, either part will help you.
Together, they do something different.
The Playbook will sharpen how you read the market. The Planner will tighten how you behave in front of it.
The Playbook tells you what setups are worth taking. The Planner makes sure you only take the ones that fit, in the right size, with the right rules around them. The first part removes guesswork from the chart. The second part removes it from you.
That’s the whole strategy. Not a way to predict the market, but a way to behave consistently enough that a sound process can do its job.
You can read each part in more detail below.
Trade well. Stay ordinary.
